From the moment we dropped our bags at our Airbnb, we loved Sydney. It’s a vibrant city and it’s hard to miss the infectious energetic vibe of the place with several “g’day mate” greetings to lift your spirts up.
Here are some things we most enjoyed in this city.
Hanging around at Circular Quay and the Opera House Tour – the quay is a hub of activity where you can enjoy a cup of coffee overlooking the Harbour Bridge. Several waterfront restaurants and cafes come to life in the evenings and you can enjoy a beautiful sunset sipping a drink from one of these.
You can also go up to the Opera House and if you want to, take a guided tour inside. We had booked a tour well in advance online and enjoyed seeing the inside of the Opera House.
Queen Victoria Building (aka QVB) and other historic buildings in CBD – QVB is a beautiful 19th century building which has been converted into a shopping mall. We would suggest taking a stroll inside to admire the architecture. Do peek into the “powder room” and stop by at Haigh’s Chcoclates to pick-up some chocolate to bring back home.
As you walk around in CBD (the Central Business District) you’ll also pass by several other historic buildings, nicely preserved and a treat to the eyes.
Bondi to Bronte Coastal Walk – we took a bus to get to Bondi around noon, then stopped by at a beach side cafe to enjoy the views over a relaxed lunch. Our main motive of coming all the way though was to do the coastal walk. It was a great way to absorb the scenic beauty and the views views were really pretty. It’s a relatively easy 4 km trail which passes by a few beaches giving you the option of stopping over if you wish to.
The Rocks Weekend Market – this market comes to life every Saturday and Sunday where you can enjoy tasty treats and shop for local, often hand-made products. We easily spent 3 hours here, where we gorged on boiled spiced corns, japanese pancakes, pies and coffee. We also picked up cute fridge magnets, coasters and a couple of t-shirts as souvenirs from Sydney. Weekend markets are always our favourite when we travel and we try to explore them as much as our itinerary allows. We were so glad to have visited The Rocks.
Darling Harbour – the harbour again is a hive of activity with several bars, restaurants and cafes lined across the waterfront. We came here two days in a row to sit at a waterfront restaurant to enjoy drinks and dinner. The best bit however were the fireworks which light up the sky every Saturday evening. You need to check the schedule and plan to visit accordingly.
That’s a wrap! Do you have your own favourites in Sydney? We would love hear more about them 🙂
