We get it, Bangkok has a reputation. But there’s so much more to the city than the stereotypes created around it. It’s a really fun place and there’s something for everybody.
We recently visited Bangkok, again. However, this time around it was with our mom and dad. We weren’t sure if they would enjoy the trip but we all ended up having a great time.
Here’s what we were up to in our 3 days in BKK.
Wat Pho temple – popular for the temple of reclining Buddha. It’s a very pretty temple complex with spires, carvings and several buddha statues throughout the complex. It opens daily from 8:00 am – 6:30 pm and entry is 100 thai baht. Do remember to wear long pants and cover your shoulders to follow the custom of the place.
Grand Palace – we visited the royal grand palace for the very first time on this trip and were spellbound by its grandeur craftsmanship. The architecture is unique, the colours vibrant and artistry extremely beautiful. It opens daily from 8:30 am – 3:30 pm and entry is 500 thai baht. Here as well, wear long pants and cover your shoulders to follow the custom of the place.
Tuk Tuk Rides – auto rickshaws or 3 wheelers in Thailand are called Tuk Tuks and taking them for short distances is quite fun and a great way to enjoy the city vibes. Do hop into one, when you get the opportunity.
Thai Food – food is delectable – we loved everything from the thai curries to their pad thai noodles. If you’ve never tried ice cold thai milk tea or thai coconut water, you must – we insist.
Chatuchak Weekend Market – is one of the largest weekend markets in the world with over 15,000 stalls selling everything imaginable. A great place for some bargain shopping and picking up gifts and souvenirs. It’s open every Sat and Sun from 8:00 am – 6:00 pm.
Patpong Night Market – there are several night markets and we went to Patpong as it was closer for us. Again good for some bargain shopping – for things like t-shirts, bags and accessories.
Rooftop Restaurant – Bangkok is a rather big city and to get an idea of its scale as well as to enjoy the city scapes we suggest going to a nice rooftop restaurant and relaxing over some food and drinks. The city has many and we chose to go to Above Eleven.
Thai Massages – thai people are experts of massage. There are massage centers all over the city and different ones that suit every pocket. At the budget ones, you can get an excellent one hour massage done for 8-10$.
Cabaret Show – To enjoy these performances book your tickets for one of the many shows. We booked a Calypso cabaret and though we weren’t wowed by it, it was still good and we enjoyed the experience.
